I used to be bothered by the fact that I was disturbed when underrepresented folks tried to get better representation. Whether in the the trades, the professions, or the academy, for some reason I found the desire to want equal treatment somehow off-putting. I believe wholeheartedly that everyone should have equal access and equal opportunity. Why did I always get so worked up inside, however, when people would point out the underrepresenation of women, blacks, hispanics, lgbtq, etc et al?
Now I think I can say why it has bothered me for so long: the areas of life in which folks want better access for all are precisely the ways of living that are destroying our planet and our civilization. Things will not be better if more women are in charge because what they are desiring to be in charge of are destructive tendencies in our very being. It will not be better if lgbtq are allowed all the rights of straight people because these equal rights are based on a lot of assumptions & presuppositions about being human that are quite vicious.
How do I know this? Because every woman I have ever met that is in a position of power is not that different from every man I have met that is in a position of power. And every gay couple I have met that has all the “rights” of their straight counterparts are as obsessed with the status quo & appearances as those straight counterparts.
It is not the case that things will get better if different folks are at the helm. We morph ourselves to fit the helm of a massive con. We do not change the direction of our massive ship: the techno-economic progress machine convinces us to change ourselves. There is simply no correcting the course of this Westernizing juggernaut. You will always be pulled along in its already rushing wake.
If somebody says to me change can only come about from the inside, I will from now on agree wholeheartedly: Change can only come about from the inside of your soul.
Eschew the false equality of equal opportunity to the halls of power & the fields of success. Eschew the false liberty of ceasless adaptation to the system until you are nothing but communion with the system.
Mitigate how tied you are to all of this. If you work in the system, take the lowest level job possible. Do not depend on the system for a “better” life. You do not need that much to have a happy, flourishing life. But you will never cease wanting the things that make for a miserable, arrested existence once you start chasing the dragon of “I can make it better; my kind will not do what their kind did.”
That is just one more part of the long fucking con, the one that tells your overly myopic ego “I = World.”
