There was a time when I thought the arguments given for ever rising executive compensation were all examples of the slippery slope. Stupid me! I now realize that they are examples of a false dichotomy. How is it that I was missing the either…or… structure of these statements over the last decade? Probably too concerned about keeping a roof over my head to look more closely. Pahndeepah, you are BAAAAD public philosopher… keep your eyes and ears more open!
…a study released last week pretty much drives a stake through that old “pay ’em or lose ’em” line — what you might call the brain-drain defense. It also debunks the idea that companies must keep up with the Joneses by constantly comparing their executives’ compensation with that of similar companies.
