It seems I was always aware of Arlo Guthrie, even before he burst onto the folk scene, since I followed the life and career of his dad, Woody and Woody’s 2nd marriage to Marjorie Greenblatt Mazia, Arlo’s mom. Marjorie was a former Martha Graham dancer and the daughter of a famous Yiddish poet, Aliza Greenblatt. Knowing that Woody and Marjorie lived in Coney Island, which my family and I frequented, intrigued me. I could imagine Woody and Marjorie, taking Arlo and his sister, Nora, and brother, Joady to the beach or to Nathan’s…just like my family! As Woody increasingly debilitated with Huntington’s Chorea (Huntington’s Disease), it was Marjorie who returned to take care of him.
