A superb new film from Joseph Gordon-Levitt with Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza.
I will say that it is one of the best movies I have ever seen about what it means to love and to learn how to love. Hands down one of the best.
Don Jon critiques the unrealistic notions that arise from ideal physical relations (pornography) and ideal emotional relations (romantic comedies). So for that reason, I am refusing to call it the best “rom-com” ever as I have seen some folks doing.
I am not going to say anything more other than the film does a good job of showing how the expectations that arise from our imagination give source to many of our frustrations.
In a couple of weeks, after folks have had a chance to see the film, I will write a longer discussion on the Way of Love using Don Jon as my example.
