First Monday evening class for Fall 2016, Intro to Philosophy. I am treating the afternoon class and the evening class as two very distinct iterations of the same material.
For the evening class, like the earlier one, I started with asking, “What is education?” I got very different answers! So this led the evening class down a different track of thinking. After lecturing for about 35 minutes, I turned off the recorder and opened up the room to discussion.
Ultimately, I attempted to engage the class in a back-and-forth that elucidated for us a better understanding of how “education” has been turned into a commercial exchange, a trade of “fundamentals”, a receipt of knowledge-products. I called this process, Whatification.
