This is a song that I started singing a few days before my dissertation defense as I walked around my neighborhood in the early morning. I think the tune goes back to when I was in the Seminary? I know it has been in a my head a long time now. But the words are very informed by my own eclectic Mountain Dog School of existential thinkering. If you enjoy, let me know.

CHORUS
I come in
the morning
To give thanks
to the Good
I come at
this dawning
To give thanks
as I should
To the Light
up above
Embracing
all as Love…
Encompassing
Bright Truth
Wonderful.
VERSE 1
Brother Sun
At my door
Rising as
you have before
All the light
and energy
That we need
to be free.
I dance with
Mother Earth
Giving thanks
for my birth
She ensures
paying heed
Giving all
that we need.
REPEAT CHORUS
VERSE 2
I stand out
with my friends
Lifting voices
we send
Gratefulness
for the day
From each
on their way.
I welcome
and I invite,
All I see,
yes each life,
I welcome
them to walk
Alongside me,
let us talk.
REPEAT CHORUS
VERSE 3
And these beings
as we wander
Yes, every thing
that we ponder,
Reveals and
we find
That each of us
is as a kind.
A kind of truth,
a kind of way;
A kind of
moment this day
All joining
as we range
Through life’s
sweet exchange.
REPEAT CHORUS
VERSE 4
Sister Moon
I don’t forget
For last Night
you did sit
With my dread
in the dark
Promising
my whole heart
So I sing
through my art
Sister Moon,
Cousin Stars
Thank you for
guiding our
Path homeward
to this hour…
REPEAT CHORUS
VERSE 5
So I know,
that this Day
In its
singular way
Never yet
has such begun,
A new hope
now is won.
And so my voice
Lifts up above
Comprehending
through Love
Yet I know
I do not know
And still
I must grow.
Yet I will do
what I can
To be open
and understand
How I am now,
I am here,
Yes, I may doubt
but should not fear.
For the Good
always holds me near.
Embracing
all as Love
Encompassing
Bright Truth
Wonderful.
